During this assignment I found utilizing multiple layers to be extremely benificial towards achieving the look I wanted. By using many layers I could adjust transparencies and other aspects to each “piece”of fire and waterfalls. Here are the two finished products.
Utopia

Destruction:

I decided to add one of my number one pet-peeves to the desctruction of such a beautiful place, graffiti in natural settings. I find it quite disturbing to be at a serene river, look up a rock face only to find that someone has grotesquely bosted that they “wuz here”!

Here’s my nearly complete destroyed version of my utopia. I still need to add the junk and trash elements in the foreground but aside from that, I’m close to wrapping up this assignment. Any suggestions before the final piece is due?

For the second part of this assignment I must create the destruction of my Utopia, or rather, Hell. With a serene, peaceful and lush Utopia, I want to manipulate it in a way to evoke the opposite response. Changing the waterfall into a fire fall will be my first step in the destruction phase. This massive element will focus most of the attention to the falls however, the cause of the falls will be captured in the foreground. I want to convey the damaging affect man has on environment and plan to incorporate photos from junk yards and trash piles in the foreground of the fiery scene. I have worked on converting the water fall into a fire-fall and found it is going to take a lot of layers to achieve the look I desire for the finished counterpart to my Utopia. Here’s my progress…

After playing with the idea of incorporating two different layouts into one, I’ve found that the addition brings more depth into the Utopia scene. I was also able to remove the annoying log from the center of the image, creating one larger-than-life waterfall out of 5 differing waterfalls. Here is what I have accomplished over the weekend…

After narrowing my focus on one layout option I continued to apply more detail that can still seem convincing. Here’s what I have accomplished since the previous class meeting. I received a suggestion to combine both layouts I had posted previously and plan to work on trying to incorporate more depth and perspective into the piece over the weekend.

Here’s the progress I’ve made in class. I have two different options that I have worked on. I ha ve narrowed my focus on the second option and still want to add more color through flowers and get picky with smoothing out all the lighting between foreground and backgrounds. I also want to frame the scene more to direct the viewer’s eye around the scene.
Not too much more to go. Since I wanted to create a larger and more unique waterfall I decided to combine a few photos of different waterfalls together. This did take several attempts with varying waterfall combonations to find images to sinc up.
Opt 1:
Favored opt 2:
This last image I also want to incorporate more wooden steps within the log the waterfall and possibly a couple house structures within the rocks.

On the 3rd Assignment we are to create a landscape/cityscape that depicts our utopia along with an additional creation of the destruction of that utopia or depict its hell.
I wish to incorporate a lot of nature mixed with some fantasy through waterfalls, flowers, and insects. Ideally I wish to portray the perspective one would find from a fairy or gnome sized passerby. To further incorporate some whimsy I’d like to frame the scene on a side with fairy wings or butterfly wings in the extreme foreground. The scene will then open up to reveal a peaceful, lush green, and whimsical space with a waterfall in the background, winding its way to the foreground. I’d also like to put emphasis on color by using bright greens in leaves along with flowers of differing variety and color.
Below are a few images to help convey the color scheme along with original photos I have taken over the past few years while hiking and camping.
These photos will be compiled into one giant flowing waterfall instead of 5 individual falls for the finished utopia image.
These are again, original photos posted below and will be used for the destruction of my utopia.
